Sadly I have to report the death of Norman McFarland. Norman was a member of the South Belfast chess club and a former member of the old Fisherwick club. The funeral is on Monday morning at 9.00 am.
Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
Due the effects of severe sleeplessness I have been forced to retire from league and tournament chess.
It was great fun while it lasted. Best wishes to my former club mates and all the other UCU players. 1 Cor 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
Deuteronomy 32:35 To me belongeth vengeance and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.
In normal circumstances this would end the match with a checkmate for Richard Kerr. However, the Kincora scandal is such a sinister and murky scenario, it is anyone`s guess as to what may happen now! Below is the original documentary from 2015 when Richard first broke his 30 years of silence.
Here is a video I made up featuring Richard Kerr with "The Eye Of The Tiger" playing in the background.

Tonight`s match against Ballynafeigh2 ended with a hard fought 3-2 victory, once again Gareth clinched the match.
Roookie`s Report
Kelly's Heroes "Defeigh" Ballynafeigh 2! Kelly's Heroes march on with a narrow win over Ballynafeigh 2 to record their fifth consecutive win and Belfast South's total of 11 unbeaten games in a row- 10 wins and one draw! Kelly's Heroes are now joint second behind champions Strand 1, whose only defeat all season was against...Kelly's Heroes! John McKenna guaranteed his Board 5 board prize while Gareth Annesley and John Bryars have still a great chance of board prizes too! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I had a quick game of psychological chess with him. "See the way youse go on and on about collusion," I said, "All you have to do is go after the activities of Sergeant Mike Norman and you will get to the heart of it. But if you do, the British government will respond by revealing every IRA/MI5 informer they know about in retaliation!." Gerry replied, "That suits me!"
I replied, "That is because you were in jail most of the time!" Needless to say, Gerry has not publicly mentioned Sergeant Mike Norman, nor will he, neither will any other "Irish Republican." That was a quick check mate by me! This is linked to:
KH won another match tonight, though it was hard fought and only was clinched, when Gareth once again won while short of time. Civil Service 2 KH 3 Some video clips from last night.
When ever I win a game, I no longer feel elated, I feel exhausted, whenever I loose a game I feel doubly exhausted. Time is catching up with me!
Below is the key moment in my game with Mark last night. It is move 21 and black to play, what is black`s best move, or possible moves? Taking the Knight looks tempting but it may not be so easy for a human to hold the position for black afterwards. What is easy for a computer programme is not so easy for a human with limited time?
Below is the key moment the game turned, it is black to play, what would you play? I am black and I lost the game in the end, how ever the key positions are very interesting.
Rookie`s Report is below.
Kelly's Heroes Exploit Clerical Error By Civil Service!
Kelly's Heroes won their fourth match in a row in Division 1.
In fact, it's Belfast South Chess Club's tenth unbeaten game in a row- nine wins and one draw!
Having beaten the bottom team, Kelly's Heroes now travel to the second bottom team, Ballynafeigh 2, next Tuesday 9/4/19 @ 7.45pm.
We are currently joint second in Division 1 behind runaway Strand 1.
Also, Gareth Annesley, John Bryars and John McKenna all have a chance to get a board prize, like Paul Hanna and Norman McFarland have done for The B Team! Martin Kelly (Captain).

It is in Armagh this time. A local hotel is offering discounted rates. 1Co 9:25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
Chessbase are offering a great bargain of Maurice Ashley DVD`s. He did a number of shows for Chessbase a few years ago, which were excellent. I looked for them earlier today but they seem to have been deleted from the old style Chessbase broadcast programmes.

Another amazing result followed on from victories over Strand 1 and Ballynafeigh 1, totalling 16.5 out of 21 and putting us in second place!
Firstly, John Bryars got revenge over Ryszard, "hard" though it was!
There was nothing "marring" David's win over Marron!
Sam was flummoxed by Masterson's mastery after drawing with him last time!
John McKenna clinched the match after showing "Stevadore"!
Finally, Gareth, with 21 seconds left and a piece up, made up for his two defeats against Cairns by forcing perpetual check and "earns" a draw against Cairns!
Overall, a complete turnaround from our 6-1 defeat to them last time.
Also, Gareth and the two Johns kept their hopes of a board prize alive. Martin Kelly (Captain ).
Another win for KH, 3.5-1.5 against Fruithill. Gareth once again played amazingly well when really, really, really short of time!
In my game with JM, this position occurred, it is a well known piece sac for 3 pawns by white. I did spend some time thinking about playing it, but decided I did not want to try it against a strong opponent. Have had this against computer programmes but it was always at the lowest strength playing levels when it occurred. It is white to play.
Below is a possible position in the piece for 3 pawns sac. It is now Black to play? White obviously intends to take the third pawn on d6.
As things turned out, I may as well have tried it as I lost anyway!
The Bible verse below speaks of Christ the great sacrifice.
Hebrews 10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
Many years ago, I read a book in which it revealed some gangster had been shot dead in Chicago, the police are said to have found the following poem in his pocket.
The clock of life is wound but once And no man hath the power To tell just where the hands will stop, At late or early hour.
To lose one's wealth is sad indeed, To lose one's health is more. To lose one's soul is such a loss As no man can restore.
Now is the only time you have Live, love, toil at will. Place no faith in 'time For the clock may soon be still.
Psalm 90:12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
Doing an errand for a friend last night was like going back in time. To complete the errand, I had to call into the Belfast South venue, it was very strange seeing the old fold up boards and the mechanical clocks being used! After the match started, I took my dog for a walk and returned about an hour later. Due to the cold night air, the video camera in my pocket was cold, so when I came back into the warm playing venue, the lens of the camera had condensation, it produced a ghostly effect when I started filming again. ************************************************** Rookie`s report on last night`s match. The recently confirmed Division 2 Champions were demolished by The B Team, who have now scored 27/35 in their last 5 games. We "nicked" a win over a team without their talisman, Nick! In the battle of the 2 Stephens, Stephen "Wood" be favourite and so it proved! There was a right "Barney" when Bernard lost to Board prize favourite Paul to tie the match! "You offer- I deliver" was Cathal's comment after beating Paddy- like his usual arriving comment- "Is there a match tonight"? : "Bob's" your uncle as Bobby clinched the match win with a terrific win over Martin. The other team gave their captain a "pat" on the back but Norman still can clinch the board prize next week. ************************************************** Ecc 12:12 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
This is the position reached in my game with DL after white`s move 32.Rc6 According to my computer analysis by Deep Fritz 14, both me and DL have been cheating. We have both played 31 high quality moves. The position below is the first mistake, it is now black to play and get an advantage, I suspect it may be hard for club players to find the move black should have played? I will post the recommended move in the comments section later.
Below is a curious position which arose, it is black to play and the Comp is saying black should play 1...Nxe3 2.QxN Bxf4 3.Qd2 with and advantage to black.
However, I do not fancy trying to play that line, its too hard trying to find all the continuations after this, especially if you are short of time.
