A local "journalist" has used a Chess analogy to try and explain  "The real world."
Here is the link, "CHESS IS THE NAME OF THIS GAME"

"Sacrificing your pawns, whether they be the lives of serving police officers whose personal details were exposed in the Castlereagh raid or low level IRA volunteers exposed and killed to cover up a much bigger agent, are part of the classic amoral moves of state/spy craft. Chess is the name of this game."

Proverbs 20:18 Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.

Just saw this interesting article by Nigel Davies and have to say, I fully agree with it. Without the information provided by "Chess professionals," people like me would know even less than I know now.

A while ago I joined Nigel Davies Online Training Club. It is very good value and there is lots of useful, practical and well organised advice to be found there.

As the site is copyright protected I cannot give you any examples, but you can look it up yourself and see if you think it is worth a trial.

Here is a link to the Home Page.

Just discovered another piece of Copyright protected stuff on the internet, as a matter of fact it must the the most closely monitored item on the internet.

It is a piece of music called, "Pretend You Don`t See Her." Attempts to post it are taken down in seconds.

You can hear it at the start of this LP.

Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Tonight`s result was a big improvement over last week.  South Belfast scored 41/2 against Bangor.

No more league games until after the holidays.

Matthew 2:16 - Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.

South Belfast were heavily defeated by 4 points to 1 in tonight`s match. The visitors to the Bankers club played well and deserved their victory.

The last  game was an interesting ending where the white pieces relentlessly went after a win.  The video shows the white Queen penetrating behind the enemy lines.

Penetrating behind enemy lines was a tactic used by Joshua, the phrase "liers in wait" is used to describe the ambushers.

1. Ray Devenney V Steve Scannel 0-1
2. Sam Flanagan V John O`Doherty 1/2
3. Bruce McClean V Brendan Jamison 0-1
4. John Bryars V Damien Lavery 0-1
5. William Storey V Chris Kelly 1/2

Joshua 8:13 And when they had set the people, even all the host that was on the north of the city, and their liers in wait on the west of the city, Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.

The match with QUB was drawn. It took place at the impressive Queen`s University venue.

With such a good Chess venue and the possibility of funding, it looks like Queen`s Chess Club have a potentially very promising future.

Here is a short video taken at the venue just before the games started, did not get much video footage as my game was the last to finish.

Rookie`s Report on the match is below.
1.Callum Ormerod 0-1 Ray Devenney
2. Ian Woodfield 0.5-0.5 Sam Flanagan
3. Samuel Ngieng 0.5-0.5 David Ruben
4.Milad Fozooni 1-0 John McKenna
5. Bernard Mc Caughey 0.5-0.5 Bemard Jaffa
Total 2.5-2.5. + Bonus: 3.5-3.5.

What names to conjure with - how to make puns with those names?

I had to " burn hard" the midnight oil to think of one for the draw between the 2 Bernard's!

In this "column", Calum's defeat against unbeaten Ray could not be omitted, however " callous" that might be!

As for Fozooni's victory over previously unbeaten John, "fools only" rush in where angels fear to tread!

As I said to the judge, "yes, mi lud", the puns are that bad!

The chances of a positive result on Board 3 rather than a draw were " ngoing, ngoing, Ngieng "!

Before the match, I wondered if QUB 1 " would field" Woodfield but they did and his draw with Sam tied the match.

Names in the Bible are very interesting, they all signify something, like NABAL for instance.

1 Samuel 25:25 Let not my lord, I pray thee, regard this man of Belial, even Nabal: for as his name is, so is he; Nabal is his name, and folly is with him: but I thine handmaid saw not the young men of my lord, whom thou didst send.

The match between Belfast South and the Lions was drawn.

Here is a postion from my game against Ross Harris. I am white and I have just played Kc6 to Kd6, unwittingly giving away a lot of my advantage, according to my computer programme.

Is it possible for black to draw this game? It is quite difficult when you only have a few minutes but it may still be possible.

Rookie`s report is below.

1.Ray Devenney 1-0 Calum Leitch.

2.Sam Flanagan 1-0 Ross Harris.

3.Bruce MacLean 0.5-0.5 John Bradley.

4.John Bryars 0-1 Sam Moore.

5.Bernard Jaffa 0-1 Richard Gould.

Total: 2.5-2.5. + Bonus: 3.5-3.5.

C S. Lewis teams - Have you seen their wardrobe? Not up to our sartorial elegance, but the Lions were, in the mane, worth the draw!

On Board 4, John made a kamikaze move, which samurai Sam Moore, I believe, exploited to win.

Omagh goodness, John Bradley from Omagh showed his Tyrone Power by drawing with Bruce- a Brucey bonus.

Ray D. was ready to resign, but played a peach of a move against Leitch to win his queen- life's a bitch!
Next, Gould fooled Bernard into thinking he would win on time; alas Richard hung on to win. Finally,

Ross suffered a loss to Sam, 'cause Sam was the boss in the end.

Luke 14:31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.

Tonight`s match againt Muldoons ended with a 3-2 victory for Muldoons.

Below is an interesting endgame position from my game against Nicholas.  It is white to play, what is the best way to continue? I did not see it during the game.

Rookies report is below.

1.Ray Devenney 1-0 Gareth Annesley.
2.Sam Flanagan 0.5-0.5 Nicholas Pilkiewicz.
3.Bruce MacLean 0-1 Stephen Wood.
4.John Bryars 0-1 Danny Mallaghan.
5.Chris Armstrong.

Total 2-3. + Bonus 2-5.

I've mulled over this game- we're down but not out!
We're now second in Division 1.

After an hour, we were 2-0 down.
First, Dan the Man had a plan which beat John.

Then, I hoped Bruce would cruise to victory, given his great start to the season- so I hoped Steve wood lose but he won.

Des was in a daze as Chris was not amiss at forcing Des to offer a draw.

Ray's played so well so far that I was hopeful in his game against Annesley- and slay him, he did.

Sam, a pawn up, needed a win to secure a match draw, but Nick managed to Nick a draw to win the match 3-2.

Thursday`s match with Bangor could easily haved ended 3.5 - 1.5 for Bangor.  I arrived late for my game and ended up in serious time trouble.

As you can see in the video, the Bangor club are using mechanical clocks which make it difficult to know exactly how much time you have when the flag starts to fall. You reach a stage when it looks like the flag is about to fall immediately.

Rookie`s report is below.

1.Alan McConnell 0.5-0.5 Ray Devenney;

2.James O'Fee 0-1 Sam Flanagan;

3.Walter Wilson 0-1 Bruce MacLean;

4.Richard Morrow 1-0 David Ruben;

5.Gary Johnston 0-1 Neil Green.

Total 1.5-3.5. +Bonus 1.5-5.5.

I climbed into Sam's old banger to get to Bangor last night.

Wobbly Walter Wilson wilted to defeat but Bruce couldn't lose.

On Board 1, Alan was falling behind a pawn down but held out for a draw against Ray.

David was full of sorrow after losing to Morrow.

The scores were level with time trouble in the last two games.
Fee, fi, fo, fum, O'Fee was not a happy chum as Sam, 2 Queens up, got him to resign with 15 seconds left.

All hinged on the bottom board where Neil must have been eating his greens as his stamina outlasted Gary's, who lost on time.

This is a position from my last game in the IOM. It turns out the position is a lot more interesting than I first imagined.

It is so interesting I have now called it an "NAIVETY TEST for club players.

I am black and it is black to play, black is close to queening a pawn.

How would you assess the state of play? Should it be a win for black or a draw?

What is black`s best move?

In the "Naivety test" I got a rating of "Extremely naive."

Someone may find this an interesting postion to play against their computer programme.

This is the full game showing the position above. I naively assumed by pushing the f pawn I would win the white rook, then it should be easy to use my rook to cut the white king off from the h pawn, and win the game.

As you can see this was extremely naive.

Play chess online

This is how the game should have went according to my computer programme. The move I missed was Rook back to e8 on move 69. As you can see my naivety cost me a forced mate in about 20 moves.

I think this game gives an overall view of my present ability. In most of my games I do not get caught out in the openings.

However my play in the middlegame and endgames is seriously lacking in proficiency.

Need to commence some very serious middle and endgame studies.

Ecc 12:12 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

Someone in N.Ireland has published a book using the brilliant title, "The Three Headed Dog."

Incidentally, the book has a strong link to the Isle Of Man!

It would make a great title for a chess opening. Maybe GM Simon Williams will be able to conjure up some suitable attack line for his next video series and give it this name.

In my game today a position was reached where you could almost visualise a three headed-dog on the board. You just have to image the horse`s heads are dog`s heads, on c3, e4 and f5, all in a diagonal.

Here is another position which should have arisen in my game today, if I had been a much better player.

A three-pronged attack by white featuring the Knight, Bishop and Queen. Alas, I failed to see it.
It is black to move.
Here is a real position from my game today, which almost melted my head trying to find the best way to continue.

I did not find the computer`s best way but fortunately I did find the second best way.

It is white to move, I will post my Computer programme`s best move in the comments section along with my second best move.

Ecc 12:12 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

???????????? HOW DID I MISS THIS ??????????

It is move 12, I am white and it is white to move.  This mistake shocked me when the computer showed me the best way to continue the game.

My opponent will be pleased as he never saw it either! The game was agreed a draw a few moves later.

The computer continuation will be shown in the comments section.

Here is a short video clip from today`s round. As you can see all the sections are being played in the splendid auditorium of the Villa Marina.

Job 19:4
And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself.

Monday, 5 October 2015

This position arose in my game today. I am white and my opponent has just played a7-a5.  The postion allows white to play a tactical move which seems very pretty.

However, although I could work out the inital tactical shot, I could not work out the ensuing moves clearly enough to give me the confidence to play it.

It may be a good exercise to try playing the position against a full strength programme to see how it pans out in practice.

I will post the move which was too complicated for me to work out in the comments section.

Here is a short video of the Major tournament first round.

I won my game today largely to what I have learned from this Victor Bologan DVD.

Luke 14:28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,

30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

Over a number of years I have read various articles from Chess coaches and tutors giving advice about Chess and Chess preparation.

Many of them made the point that is is a good idea for Chess players to have a reasonable degree of  physical fitness. It does seem like a good idea.

However, to attain a degree of fitness you have to train, and if you train regularly you will most certainly get an injury eventually.

I have just found there is a flaw in the advice about being fit.

I have just found out it is best if you stop training about a week before you play in a tournament because if you get a very painful injury it becomes very hard to concentrate on preparing for a tournament.

It must be even worse if it happens during a tournament!

On Monday night I tore a calf muscle while training, it has been very hard to concentrate on Chess because of the discomfort.

Got Physio treatment on Tuesday and have an appointment  again for more treatment tomorrow.

The Physio I attend has also given me the name of a good sports Physio in Douglas Isle Of Man.  Hopefully I will not need any treatment in the Isle Of Man.

Physiotherapy seems to be a fascinating subject.

Psalm 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

Just found this incredible Chess story. I met  Russell quite a few times in Gibraltar. Have not seen him for a while though.

Chess players' 7-year legal battle isn't black and white, says judge

"He told them: "I do not know if you are both thoroughly decent fellows, or both rogues." lol

Here is another link about the story. CHECKMATE: Chess pair told to be nice to each other by Tunbridge Wells judge

It looks like people have been commenting on this on various Chess Forums. Here for example.

I have discovered a video clip of my favourite journalist Ted Baxter talking about Chess. Here it is below.

The clip is taken from the show below.

Here is another position from a rated game against Fritz at 2198 level. It is black to move and I am black, if I had found the right move, it would have brought me the most spectacular ever win at a Chess game.

Needless to say I missed the move and only saw it when Fritz showed me the analysed game, the actual game itself ended up drawn.

The time control was 25 minutes for each side.

The winning line is posted in the comments section under this article.

Isaiah 5:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Tuesday, 15 September 2015

The position above is from a rated game against Fritz 14. Fritz rating was set at 2198 and Fritz is black.

It is me to move as white, I failed to find the best move and ended up with a draw.  When Fritz analysed the game, it pointed out a win for white which shocked me as it seemed so simple, yet I had failed to find it.

No doubt it is the type of position where a Chess master would find the key move quite easily but it is not so easy for club players like myself.

I have found this is a consistent weakness in  my game, I get a good position but fail to find the key move which turns a good position into a won game.

The key move is a tactical move, but it is not a blatant tactical move which instantly wins a pawn or a piece, it was more subtle than that, it was so subtle I failed to see it.

They are looking for at least one more player for the over 1700 section of the Ulster championships at the infamous Europa Hotel which starts on Friday night.

At the minute they have 13 players and need one more to make it even numbers.

Must try and get some video of the start of the tournament on Friday night.

I am currently playing real life Chess against the government of N.Ireland and elements of the CIA.
It will soon be a blockbuster movie, the proposed trailer is below.

Over the past few years I have established a secret international organistion, it is so secret the people who are in it, do not even know they are in it.  It does not have a name.

The purpose of the organisation is to humiliate and overthrow crooks like President Peter Kirsan Ilyumzhinov Robinson and Desperate Dan Quayle.

It is a lot of fun, sort of like playing blindfold chess, only without the blindfold.

STRANGE CHESS SCENE FROM "Deception" aka "End Of The Game"

Came across this strange Chess scene in a movie I had never heard of before. I stumbled across it while looking up information about the actor, the late Robert Shaw.
For some strange reason I had always thought he came from N.Ireland but this is very incorrect. He did die in Ireland though.

It turns out the movie originates from a German novel, Der Richter und sein Henker, The judge and his hangman. Have not watched the movie but it seems to be some sort of cynical morality tale.

If you are wondering why I was looking up information about Robert Shaw, I will tell you why. A few night`s ago I started watching the famous movie "The Sting," even though I have seen it a few times I found it hard to stop watching it, must be because the acting is so good, it sort of grabs your attention.

Robert Shaw really knew how to project a very menacing persona, I wonder how he learned to do that?

When I eventually looked up the movie called "Deception" aka "End Of The Game" it contained a very strange Chess scene.

Here is the full movie for anyone who has not seen it or heard of it.

Galatians 6:8 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Found out there is a new Ulster Chess online page, when I visited the venue for the Summer tournament earlier.

It is called and it is being used to broadcast live games.

I think it is just in it`s testing phase at the minute, to get it ready for the Ulster Chess Championship, which will be staged in the infamous, sinister, and skullduggery orientated premises known as the Europa Hotel.
Richard Kerr, Kincora victim
If there is ever going to be an epic "cheating scandal" anywhere in the world, the Europa must be tailor-made for it.  It has all the right ingredients.

Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

I wish to express my sympathy to my fellow South Belfast Chess Club team mate Graeme McCormick, due to the passing away of his wife.

“The clock of life is wound but once,
And no man has the power
To tell just when the hands will stop
At late or early hour.

To lose one's wealth is sad indeed,
To lose one's health is more,
To lose one's soul is such a loss
That no man can restore.

Now is the only time you have,
So live, love, toil at will,
Place no faith in "time,"
For the Clock may soon be still.” By Robert H Smith

2 Corinthians 1:3-5

3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.

Here are three classic music tracks particuarly suited to instructing players about the importance of good time management.

Time is precious.

Your time has run out, your flag has fallen, you are out of time.

Not to worry if you lose, you may win the next time.

Here is the wrong way to approach time-management, you do not sit on the clock!

Ecc 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Ian Coulter is the man who owes GM Pastor Begbie 7 million pounds.

Here he is pictured outside the world`s most infamous "Gay Honeytrap," which also happens to be the venue of the UCU Chess championships.

It looks like GM Pastor Begbie will have to conduct another inquiry.

Proverbs 1:10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:

12 Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:

13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:

14 Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

18 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.

19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

Saturday, 11 July 2015

How can you possibly have a chance of convincing people that this is for real and it is not just a piece of satire?

It is only due to the grace of God that the UCU is not part of the loony FIDE/FIFE outfit.

All members of FIDE should be banned from entering N.Ireland if this is what they have elected as head honcho.
There was wiser in Long Kesh!

Proverbs 27:22 Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.

Once again the Ulster Chess Championships will take place in the world`s most infamous "Gay honeytrap."

You can`t help wondering why the venue is always supplied free of charge?

Richard reveals all, "Every body meet at the whip and saddle......."

Richard reveals all, "they gradually make you feel you are important......."

Richard reveals all, " they were very discreet, very quiet"

Stay safe everyone lol

There is a special event taking place this year. On Saturday 22nd August GM Pastor Begbie will be launching his Belfast branch of his soon to be worldwide Chess Academy.

Begbie has already stunned the Chess world once, he is now ready to do it again!

He is no longer teamed up with Borislav Ivanov, he has two new partners  Peter Robinson and Dan Quayle.  That is what the secret meeting was about, everybody thinks it was about bribery and corruption when it was about Pastor Begbie`s new Chess Academy.
It just shows you how the press can get things so wrong!

Hopefully Peter and Dan will be there for the launching of this exciting new Chess venture

GM Begbie will be offering a very special Chess course to all the UCU competitors at greatly discounted prices.

Course 1. Become an IM in 4 weeks, the cost is only £10,000 worth of Krugerands or alternative gold or silver pieces.

Course 2. Become a GM in 3 months, the cost is only £25,000  worth of Krugerands or alternative gold or silver pieces.

Course 3. Become World Champion in 1 year, the cost is only £100,000  worth of Krugerands or alternative gold or silver pieces.

GM Begbie does not trade in paper or electronic currencies.

All these courses are guaranteed and underwitten by Pastor Begbie, Peter and Dan.

Plus, GM Pastor Begbie`s highly secret teaching techniques have been approved by yer man who is the head of FIDE whose name I cannot spell properly.

I may not be able to spell his name but I have discovered a great video of him!

The logo below is the old logo, it is now out date. Ivanov was a pretty amateur cheater anyway.

The new logo will have Begbie, Peter and Dan`s imprimatur upon it.

The prize winners of each section of the UCU championships will each be given a very special autographed version of DEEP BEGBIE 63 for the mere price of  2 gold sovereigns.
The picture below is out of date the new version is in a red, white and blue box.

All those interested in grabbing a place in one of these highly sought after courses can form an orderly queue outside hotel room 666 at 5.00 pm on Saturday 22nd August.

Naturally GM Pastor Begbie will be opening his second Chess Academy in the Isle Of Man as soon as possible. That is what Peter had a secret meeting with David Cameron in Downing street today about.

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Saturday, 4 July 2015

It looks like Peter Robinson is going to sponsor the Isle Of  Man tournament this year.  He is well-known for his generosity.

The prize fund will be a cool £7,000,000. Eat your heart out Maurice Ashley.

I think the best way to do it, would be for to have a prize fund of 1 million for the Masters section, a prize of 1 million for the Minor section and a prize fund of 5 million for the Major section.

Maybe Peter will play himself?

1 Timothy 6:10   For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Stumbled across this on an Israeli site. Never heard of it before.

It must be one of the biggest confidence tricks I have come across in a long time.

They are only charging $997 for a week end course lol lol lol lol

Only Americans would be dumb enough to fall for something as daft as this.

Jonadab was playing Human Chess long before these loony Yanks were ever born.

2 Samuel 13:3
But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.

Ahithophel was another "Human Chess Player."

2 Samuel 16:23 And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counselled in those days, was as if a man had enquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.

Steve McQueen knew how to play Human Chess as well!

He really did know how to play Human Chess in real life. One of Ian Paisley`s daughters told me about him. She had a friend whose family member was a movie big-shot and  knew McQueen really well.

He actually stayed in their house, naturally he chased the young girl of the family all around the room trying to get his hands on her once he got the chance. His attentions were uninvited I am led to believe.

Ask Kyle Paisley if you do not believe me, Kyle is hanging about with Eamon Mallie at the minute for some reason.

Monday, 29 June 2015

Seems to be an out break of time loss.   Poor Magnus Carlsen lost a game on time just a few weeks ago, seemingly due to a misunderstanding about the time controls.

Now, two well-known female players have lost games due to similar reasons.

Must something to do with all the "Equality Laws."  If a male player looses on time then it is only fair for a female player to loose on time?

Back in January during the Gibraltar tournament I lost a game on time as well in sightly different circumstances.

Before the game I was able to look up available databases and found quite a few of my opponents games. So I was able to prepare well for the game.

There was a very good chance he would play Be7 on move 3 and g5 on move 8.

In my possession I have a Sam Collins DVD where he recommends meeting g5 with b4 on move 9 for white. He gives a very good overview of what to play for white.

It turns out this is how the actual game went.

Quite near the end of the game I was slightly ahead on time but my opponent accidentally knocked his own king over, so there was a little controversy.

I think there is a possibility my opponent may have hit the clock when he knocked his king over so the controversy all took place while my clock was running.

The arbiter saw what happened and came over and I said, "It is OK it was an accident, we will just play on."

I never claimed the two extra minutes on the clock which I could have.

When I made move 48. Rxc8 my opponent said, "Your flag has fallen!"

So from now on there will be, "no more Mr Nice guy," If you knock your king over playing against me I will be insisting on my two minutes extra time! lol
The game is below.

I remember reading this poem years ago. A police officer found it in the pocket of someone who had just been shot dead.

“The clock of life is wound but once,
And no man has the power
To tell just when the hands will stop
At late or early hour.

To lose one's wealth is sad indeed,
To lose one's health is more,
To lose one's soul is such a loss
That no man can restore.

NOW is the only time you have,
So live, love, toil at will,
Place no faith in "TIME,"
For the Clock may soon be still.”  By Robert H Smith

Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

Over the past few months I have discovered Fritz 13 Friend mode has been very helpful.  Lots of very interesting, practical endgame positions arise which require concentration to win a game with slight advantage, or draw a game with a slight disadvantage.

I have managed to get down to minus 11 for sustained periods on a few occasions but at the minute I seem to be stuck at 34.

This is a function on Fritz which I have never used before and I have been using the various Fritz programs for years. I wonder what other useful functions I am missing?

2 Corinthians 12:9
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect inweakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

A while ago I wrote about GM Pastor Begbie.  The original post has now been updated because video clips of GM Pastor Begbie are now available.

This is clip one.

This is clip two.

Saw the first report about this earlier today from this website. It was posted on  Chess Club Live Facebook page.  Chess Club Live

In afternoon time I then read this article which gives more background information.

At the moment, it seems to me like this whole situation has developed because no effective means were taken to stop or detect Chess cheating in it`s early stages.

It will be interesting to see what measures female players can cause to be implemented as angry, aggrieved, sleighed and possibly hysterical women can be incredibly persistent in getting what they want?

As a matter of fact all the women players would be better breaking away from FIFA and forming their own federation. They would probably draw a lot more sponsorship from  wealthy entities than FIFA presently does.

FIFA or FIDE what`s the difference?

The problem dealing with cheating is failing to recognise that there are people who do not have a conscience so they are capable of anything,

HOW TO GET A 2200 RATING QUICKLY (This may not work for everyone)

I have discovered the most amazingly easy way to get a 2200 rating very quickly.  If you have a copy of Fritz 13 you may find this technique works for you as well!

Lately I have discovered my version of Fritz13 plays quite oddly if you set it to 2090 playing strength in Fritz rated games mode.

I must post some games here and let people make up their own minds.  It definitely plays a lot weaker than any 2090 player. Perhaps there is some sort of glitch in the source code?

Would like to hear others opinion on the matter.

Sample game 1. It resigned when I doubled after move 39.

Sample game 2. I blundered a piece away on move 15 and still won. A human player of 2090 would not have let me back into the game after such a mistake.

Sample game 3. In this game I am black. Even I could notice that it`s 12th and 13th moves seemed very odd. It resigned when I doubled after move 35.

Sample game 4. Black again, note the strange move 12 by white. It resigned after move 24.

Here is the solution to the problem in the last post.
The pictures below were snipped from a UTV video clip which was broadcast when Ian Paisley died. The video clips have since been removed from the UTV page.

The original footage was filmed on April 1998 at Stormont, as a protest took place against the Good Friday Agreement negotiations which were going on inside Stormont Castle.

When he was a young boy, the individual holding the orange poster was a resident of Kincora Boys Home, he is in fact a Kincora victim alleges Henry McDonald.

Henry also alleges he was the "boyfriend" of the alleged Demon Pastor aka Alan Campbell.

Beside the guy holding the orange poster is one Mr Paul Berry. In 1998 Paul Berry was an up and coming DUP politician who was just starting his ascent up the greasy pole of N.Ireland politics.

Many political pundits were tipping Paul Berry to become a future Unionist leader.

In 2005 Paul Berry quickly descended the greasy pole of N.Ireland politics when it was exposed in a local newspaper he had been visiting a male masseur for "massage treatment" in a hotel room.

Paul claimed he was only receiving treatment for a "sports injury." No one in the DUP seemed to believe him!

All in all a discerning person can see that the Kincora operation was still in progress right through 1998 and up until at least 2005, albeit in a modified form.

Why SC just happened to be filmed holding an orange poster with David Trimble`s name on it is anyone`s guess?? lol lol lol

This is a problem solving exercise, it is the same as solving a Chess problem. When you are confronted with a Chess problem nothing is hidden. All the information you need to solve the problem is contained on the Chess board in front of you.

The problem below is taken from the article "A PARABLE IN PICTURES" All the information you need to know is contained in the article.

See if you can solve the problem/parable? I will give the solution in a few days time.

Lots of interesting archive video footage being put out at the minute. The pictures below are from a UTV segment. To most people the pictures are meaningless but if you know what to look for, they tell a story perhaps?

The Demon Pastor Revealed.

Luke 8:10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.

Here is a video featuring a man called Richard Kerr. He is currently playing a very deadly simultaneous Chess match against the British government, MI5 and MI6.
It looks like he is winning at the moment.

The full video interview carried out by Channel 4 can be seen and heard below.

I came across this article via Nigel Short`s Twitter feed.  The news piece starts with the funniest first sentence I have read in a long time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Gaioz Nigalidze’s rise through the ranks of professional chess began in 2007, the year the first iPhone was released. "

Obviously Gaioz Nigalidze`s best move now is to emigrate to N. Ireland and become a politician. He will ascend to the rank of First Minister in no time.

A simultaneous exhibition featuring Ray Keene will take place in Groomsport on Thursday 9th April.  It only costs £15 to play. Any potential interested participants can contact James O`Fee for the full details.

Some details can be seen on the Bangor Chess Club Facebook page.

2 Samuel 13:3 But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.

South Belfast`s last league game took place last night, it was a decider for fourth place against the neighbouring Ballynafeigh 2 team.

I have been unable to play in the last two matches due to a back injury. I can recommend Physiotherapy and Dnyamint for injuries.

Rookie`s report of last night`s match is below.
WILLIAM STOREY 1-0 walkover
TOTAL 2.5-2.5

The above draw was just what the doctor ordered for our club. It was enough to pip our opponents last night to fourth place in Division One to add to our first place in Division Two.

Which club, then, is the second-best behind Ballynafeigh-Belfast South which finished first and fourth or Lindores which finished second and third in respective divisions?

If we add together the points scored in each division of each club’s best teams, Ballynafeigh have 198, Belfast South have 171 and Lindores have 169.5-so,clearly, Belfast South are better than Lindores-just!

So, hard luck to “Calamity Calum”, the captain of Lindores. Seriously, though, congratulations for an excellent job as League Controller to Calum Leitch, who arranged the fixtures to make for an exciting finish!

Last night, I was “sorry for Storey” that he didn’t get a game but, if he was peeved, he kept his “bill” shut and took it in good heart, as I did in getting a free point!

Next, on Board 3, the “tom toms” were beating to announce that Tom Donaldson had fluked his third win against us, when John, who had mate threats, got the move order wrong and lost a piece!

I’ll be sorry to see Thomas go to I.C.L University in the autumn, as we’ll lose our top junior to Ulster chess, at least for a while!

Ray has the hoodoo over Damien and got his third consecutive win over him-so, obviously, Cunningham had no “cunning plan”-Baldrick he ain’t!

Almost immediately, a draw was agreed on Board 2 after a “bruce-ing” encounter between Bruce and Ian, who I thought “wood field” awkward question from his captain, Damien, about why he gave the draw that allowed us to pip them for fourth place!

Finally, Chris nearly “o’d”ed as O’ Doherty won two pawns in an opening trap that Chris had never seen before-this prevented us from winning the match but we still pipped Lindores for overall second place in Ulster chess!

Once again, thanks to all our members, including some new ones, and hope to see you all next season where we will probably have two teams in Division One!

Martin Kelly.
Any overseas readers who happen to read this may and may be wondering who "Baldrick" is, I can inform you he is a guy who always has a "cunning plan."

Here is another "cunning plan."

Job 5:13 He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.
