DRAMATIC END, DO WOMEN`S BRAINS REALLY WORK LIKE THIS?

Managed to catch the dramatic end to this game earlier today. Women really do find it very hard to conceal their emotions don`t you think?

Women can also be ruthless when they need to be.

Judges 4:18-23
18 And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a mantle.

19 And he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. And she opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.

20 Again he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man doth come and enquire of thee, and say, Is there any man here? that thou shalt say, No.

21 Then Jael Heber's wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.

22 And, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nail was in his temples.

23 So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.

IT SEEMS ROOKIE HAD A COUPLE OF ACES UP HIS SLEEVE

Here is Rookies report of clinching the second division. It seems he had a couple of aces up his sleeve in the persons of Stephen Morgan and Graeme McCormick?

*******************************************
1.STEPHEN MORGAN 1-0 STEPHEN RUSH
2.GRAEME MCCORMICK 0.5-0.5 ALAN THOMASON
3.J.MCKENNA 0.5-0.5 ROBERT LAVERY
4.CHRIS ARMSTRONG 1-0 EOIN CAREY
5.WILLIAM STOREY 0-1 SIRAJ TIRIPATU
TOTAL 3-2
+ BONUS 5-2

Congratulations on winning the John Strawbridge Cup, the Division Two trophy, chaps and on keeping our 20-match unbeaten record with one game to go!

But Damien Cunningham, Dennis Wilkinson and all the lads from Ballynafeigh 3 were very sporting in defeat and were an example to Ulster chess players generally!

Let me tell you a “storey”-William graciously gave his opponent a “tiripatu” on the back after losing a close game( yes, it is a “tiri”ble pun)!

Comeback king Graeme “Count” McCormick didn’t like the “tenor” of my remarks when he initially turned down a draw offer but he wisely took a draw next move!

When told Stephen won an exciting game on Board One, there was a “rush” of people in to check which one while the losing Stephen made a “rush” for the door!

At 1.5-1.5 all, we need a draw to win the league and a point to stay unbeaten. Like the film title, “McKenna’s Gold” when it comes to getting what the captain wants as he got the draw to win the title!

Finally, at 2-2, with our unbeaten record on the line, Chris’s opponent felt on his “eoin” with so many home supporters but he adopted this “see if I carey” attitude but his massive attack was halted when he blundered his rook and the game to “good in a crisis” Chris!

Don’t forget to come along on Monday night’s social evening where I hope to have the trophy for photos, etc.;also, email me over the weekend whether you’re available for either of next week’s matches on Tuesday and Wednesday.

We only need a draw at home to Ballynafeigh 2 to get fourth place on Wednesday and a draw on Tuesday away to Ballynafeigh 4 to finish the season undefeated!

BS 4.5 BANGOR .5

Tonight` result was Belfast South  4.5  Bangor .5

Rookie`s report is below.
*********************************************

1.RAY DEVENNEY 1-0 PAUL MCGUIGAN
2.SAM FLANAGAN 1-0 WALTER WILSON
3.BRUCE MacLEAN 1-0 GARY JOHNSTON
4.WILLIAM STOREY 0.5-0.5 MICHAEL SHEERIN
5.MARTIN KELLY 1-0 W/O ----------------------
TOTAL 4.5-0.5
+ BONUS 6.5-0.5

When the traffic warden called into the Bankers’ Club and asked me who owned the “old bangor” outside, I didn’t know he was referring to the 4 man team from Bangor!

I was first to finish, as my opponent was afraid to turn up to play me-it reminds me of my arbiter days in the 1990’s when a wee boy came up to say his opponent, Mr. A.N. Other, had not arrived yet-a true story!

Next, it was the “sam” old story as Sam increased “Walter Wilson’s woes as he wilted under White’s pressure”!

There was “cheering” as Sheerin drew in a pawn ending, a pawn down, unless someone misinformed me and was taking the “Michael”!

Ray kept up his recent run of form by driving “Paul Pot”ty like a Cambodian dictator!

Bruce shot back to form and almost made it a “MacLean” sweep for The A team with a “Garry”owen up-and-under over the Bangor captain, who left wondering whether his team or Fruithill wood get the wooden spoon!

FRUITHILL MATCH REPORT

Rookie`s report on Monday night`s Fruithill match is below. It was a 4-1 victory for Belfast South.

*****************************************
Unable to reconstruct the Flanagan win over Marron yet, as they both stopped recording, but I’ll keep trying-I’m very “trying” apparently!

Despite having to restart my game with Sean (because Cathal “sean” a light on the fact we were playing the wrong colours), I “linton” my opponent to agree an early draw, as the 4 Knights is soooo boring!

To be “Frank”, “Carrothers and others” on his team were not amused, but it “bothers” me not as John coasted to victory next!

When Ray and Stephen were very “even”, a win was difficult and for Devenney, “de penny” dropped that a draw was all he could get!

A point was needed to win the match, but Cathal worried about a “loss to Ross”, but his opponent couldn’t give a “toss” and it was a hard one to “Cathal” until our guy finally got a mate!

Though a dead rubber with the match result clear, the crowd (including Watters and Cairns) enjoyed the last game involving opposite castling and massive attacks on each King-Ciaran was “fearing” Sam’s attack

But nothing was “marron” our enjoyment as Sam delivered a brilliant mate as his flag teetered on the brink! Play it again, Sam!

THANK YOU DANNY

I won a game last night largely due to what I have learned from Danny King`s DVD on the Najdorf for black.

On the DVD he discusses a number of key thematic positions and key moves for black.

The position below could be described as one key thematic position, similar to some of the positions looked at on the DVD. It is black to move, what would you play?

Needless to say I did not find the key move at the most appropriate time!!
I am sure a Chess professional would spot the move in an instant, for club players it may not be just so simple.

Here is a Bible text which describes how we can benefit from the hard work that others put in.

John 4:38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.
