Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
In the opening section he gives the above position as his first illustrative lesson. He explains the technique of gaining an easy draw for white in a position which I would easily loose.
It is first necessary for white to play Rc3 OR Kf1. Then after black`s next move the white rook goes to the a8 or c8 square with the intention of continually checking the black King on the g and f files.
The secret is keeping the rook on the 3rd rank until the pawn moves to f3.
If you want a better explanation just by the book or buy the CD as I have done a few weeks ago.
To be honest if someone had shown me this position a few weeks ago, I would have instinctively thought the correct first move was Rook to a8! WRONG and half point down the drain!
Tonight`s match with Ballynafeigh 1 ended with another 3-2 defeat for Belfast South. Here are some video clips.
Another win last night for 17 year old Thomas McDonald from the Ballynafeigh club. He is getting a lot of attention with his performance this season. Should be interesting to see his rating progress at the end of the league season

My particular game was lost on time! Any useful advice about eradicating "Time trouble" will be gratefully received!! It is amazing how quickly time disappears, no doubt there are plenty of other club-players world-wide who are experiencing the same difficulties as myself.
This was last night`s game against Calum. I lost on time, only the moves up until the 5 minute time control were recorded. There were quite a few moves made after move 39. It was a very interesting and enjoyable evening even though the game was lost.
The result of tonight`s match against Lindores, was a 3-2 win for Lindores. There was almost a controversy on the last board, a frantic cry went out for the "team captain," I am afraid I wast too busy playing to find out the details.
