LIVE CHESS FROM CHESSBASE

Embed live chess from Chessbase.

Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

HOW TO LOOSE HALF A POINT IN ONE EASY LESSON

If you look at the position in the diagram, it is white to move and draw, how does he do it?

About a year ago Michael Watters told me about a book by Nickolay Minev titled;

A Practical Guide to Rook Endgames

In the opening section he gives the above position as his first illustrative lesson.  He explains the technique of gaining an easy draw for white in a position which I would easily loose.

It is first necessary for white to play Rc3 OR Kf1.  Then after black`s next move the white rook goes to the a8 or c8 square with the intention of continually checking the black King on the g and f files.

The secret is keeping the rook on the 3rd rank until the pawn moves to f3.

If you want a better explanation just by the book or buy the CD as I have done a few weeks ago.

To be honest if someone had shown me this position a few weeks ago, I would have instinctively thought the correct first move was Rook to a8! WRONG and half point down the drain!

It can be easily checked out with a computer.

Note how the Bible talks about "the endgame."

The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?

ANOTHER 3-2 DEFEAT

Tonight`s match with Ballynafeigh 1 ended with another 3-2 defeat for Belfast South.
Here are some video clips.

Another win last night for 17 year old Thomas McDonald from the Ballynafeigh club. He is getting a lot of attention with his performance this season. Should be interesting to see his rating progress at the end of the league season

Ecc 12:12 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

BOOKS?????

Here is a puzzle, I will give you the answer in the next article. White to move and draw, there is "a technique" in this which I was unaware of until a few weeks ago!

I read with interest an article which I came across on Chess Club Live, it was about "The 25 Best Chess Books Every Player Must Have."

The article has now been updated, here is a link to the updated article. "Top 25 Chess Books: A Reply To Our Readers."

One of the problems I have with books nowadays is the simple fact I do not have time to read them.  At the moment I much prefer DVD`S and find them more instructive than books.

No doubt others much prefer books. The articles are well worth a read if you get the time to read them.

I don`t have much time at the moment as I have a very angry woman chasing me!

Proverb 21:9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.

My particular game was lost on time! Any useful advice about eradicating "Time trouble" will be gratefully received!!
It is amazing how quickly time disappears, no doubt there are plenty of other club-players world-wide who are experiencing the same difficulties as myself.

LAST NIGHT`S GAME

This was last night`s game against Calum. I lost on time, only the moves up until the 5 minute time control were recorded.
There were quite a few moves made after move 39.

It was a very interesting and enjoyable evening even though the game was lost.

BELFAST SOUTH v LINDORES 6/3/2014

The result of tonight`s match against Lindores, was a 3-2 win for Lindores.
There was almost a controversy on the last board, a frantic cry went out for the "team captain," I am afraid I wast too busy playing to find out the details.
